Administering updates from Citrix Cloud 编辑

You can administer your Citrix Hypervisor pools and servers by using the Hypervisor Management service.

The Hypervisor Management service tile is available on your Citrix Cloud home page.

• If you are already subscribed to this service, use the Manage button to access it.
• If you have not yet subscribed to this service, click Request Trial to get access.

Add a pool to Hypervisor Management

You can add any Citrix Hypervisor pool that meets the following prerequisites:

• The servers are installed with the Citrix Hypervisor 8 Cloud release stream
• The servers are in a resource location that uses Connector Appliances to connect to Citrix Cloud
• You have root access to a server in the pool

To add a pool:

1. Sign in to your Citrix Cloud account using your Citrix Cloud credentials.

2. Click Manage in the Hypervisor Management tile to access the Hypervisor Management page.

3. If you have not yet added a pool to your Hypervisor Management page, click Get Started.

   If you are already managing pools through Hypervisor Management, click Add a Pool above the pool list.

   The Add a Server Pool dialog opens.

4. In the Choose a Resource Location step, choose the resource location where you registered your Connector Appliance. Click Next.

5. In the Pool Connection Credentials step, enter the following values for a server in your pool:

   • In the Server field, enter the host name or IP address of a Citrix Hypervisor server in your pool.
   • In the Password field, enter the root password for the server.

Your pool is now listed on the Hypervisor Management page. Pools listed on this page are sorted by resource location.

Apply updates to your pool

When updates are available for a pool, the pool list Status column shows Updates available.

Before you update

Before applying an update to your pool, complete the following preparation:

• Back up the state of your pool by using the xe CLI command xe pool-dump-database.

  In the case of a partial update, you can use the backup to revert the pool to its original state without losing VM data.

• Ensure that your servers are not over-provisioned. They must have sufficient memory to carry out the update. Generally, if N equals the total number of servers in a pool, there must be sufficient memory across N-1 servers to run all live VMs in the pool. It is best to suspend any non-critical VMs during the update process.

• The pool must have shared storage to keep your VMs running during a pool update. If your pool does not have shared storage, you must stop your VMs before updating because the VMs cannot be live migrated. Storage live migration is not supported with pool update.

• Suspend any VMs that run with PCI pass-through technology. These VMs do not support live migration and must be suspended before pool update.

• Empty the CD/DVD drives of the VMs in the pools.

Note the following considerations:

• Do not attempt to perform any key control operations during the updating process. Though VMs continue to function as normal, VM actions other than migrate, suspend, and shutdown might not be available (for example, copy and export). In particular, it is not safe to perform storage-related operations such as adding, removing, or resizing virtual disks.

• High availability and Workload Balancing are not available during a pool update. The update process automatically disables these features and then enables them after completing.

Update your pool

You can then update the pool by completing the following steps:

1. For the pool that you want to update, select the details icon (>) at the end of its row.

   The pool details page opens. This page shows information about the update and the available actions.

2. Review the information about the available update to decide whether you want to install the update now. Take note of the following:

   • The contents of the update
   • Whether the update requires a server restart

3. Complete the preparation steps in Before you update.

4. To begin the update process, click Update.

   The details page displays the progress of the update.

If the update is unsuccessful, the details page displays a notification and suggests actions that might resolve any issues.

Note:

If you have Workload Balancing running in your pool, it pauses operation during the update process.

View update information for your pool

Information about past updates is available in the details view for the pool.

1. For the pool that you want to view information about, select the details icon (>) at the end of its row.

   The pool details page opens. It lists past updates by date and time.

2. Expand the section for the update that you want to know more about.

Remove your pool from Hypervisor Management

When you delete your pool, it is removed from Hypervisor Management. The pool itself and any servers, VMs, or resources in it are not changed.

1. For the pool that you want to remove, select the details icon (>) at the end of its row.

   The pool details page opens.

2. Click Delete

3. When prompted, click Delete Pool to confirm the deletion.

The pool no longer appears in the pool list on the management page. You can add this pool again at any time.
