on my site i call non existing files and it show index page not error 'not found page'. but i need to get this error, any ideas?

ErrorDocument. Have a look at your site's configuration (a local.htacessor something in/etc/apache2, for instance) to see if there is anErrorDocument 404 /index.php, or similar. You can then point that to a/404.phpand handle it yourself.UPDATE:
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]is the culprit. It is used to enable those pretty URLs. You can probably change the logic somewhere; I am not that familiar with WordPress. (Check out the$_SERVERarray; it should contain some variables related to the 404.)
