Good point! There is no way to go without setting a goal! I think my first step is to become an experienced linux user! I am not that aggressive to expect myself to become an expert when I know nothing about it. So given that goal, could you give me more advices? By the way, someone recommended me a book named "Linux: the complete reference". What do you think about this one? Thank you for your dedicated answer anyway!

well, redhat is good enough to you. you can give centOS a shoot at the first stage.
Nntp's advise is very good for a beginner.
You should know what you want to know first.
Please ask yourself these questions, that's very important.
楼上的英语甚强!是不是因为没有装中文字库?或者输入法?
depends on how deep you wanna dive, what's your goal on learning linux? To be an experienced linux user? Or system engineer with enough linux knowledge? Or a dedicated linux engineer work on linux all the day/night? Or the linux expert not only know "how to "but "why" on linux technology?
Different goal has different path and how many time you are going to invest will give you different consequence.
If you have an answer of the above question, you then can realize which distribution is good to you in different learning stage.

Thanks a lot to nntp! Iam really appreciated! By the way, as a beginner, which one do you think is more suitable for me, Redhat or Fedora?
1. FC5 is good enough whatever you want it for learning purpose or as your desktop OS
2. redhat.com offer you complete english guide , as well as Fedora core's project website does. Before seeking optional reading material , try them first.
3. learn basic knowledge about compute architect before moving your first step on linux.
4. learn how to use Google before you go to the above steps. Because huge potently questions & problems are waiting on your way.
晕,怎么没有人回应一下啊
